It only makes sense when the whale sharks show up that the Mer people would also. This was captured Northeast of Isla Mujeres MX last year. One of the more difficult captures I have taken. Not because the image is difficult to take but I was sea sick. Like so sea sick I give the camera to Handler because I thought I was going to pass out. Rule one, Always save the camera. And to make things worse I had gotten a killer head cold on the trip down to the island. Luck did turn my way however there just happened to be a Mermaid convention on the island that week.
Once a year, the largest fish in the ocean congregate off the cost of Isla Mujeres to feed. They arrive in early July and remain until late August feeding on the Skip Jack or Oceanic Bonito eggs. As they feed the become so gorged from the food that they literally stop swimming and go vertical in the water.
