Crossing the Liquid Divide ” Europa”

Finlay getting around to testing the parachute dress out in the water.  It needs a few tweaks for open water but it will flow well at Stuarts Cove next spring.  Sharks, Underwater models, and long flowing gowns will make for a dramatic capture.  I’m guessing it will take a team of 6 divers to pull this off safely in open water and a skilled underwater model.

LeeLoo

HC-3350rtwmsmThis wasn’t not intended to be a Cos Play image just a bizarre idea I had one evening while  watching the Fifth Element on the tube.   The Idea was pretty simple, Just an orange wig and some white Duct Tape.  The problems was finding a model to actually pull this off.  So I gave Hannah Kelsey a ring and asked if she was up for something different.  She hopped in her car and drove from California to Lubbock just to be dunked in the UW studio.  Of course she pulled of this amazing underwater image with little difficulty.  The results are LeeLoo walking on water.

Water Baby

When I was first asked to do KaiLee’s underwater maternity photos I was a bit concerned about how the water might affect the unborn child.  The big one was the pressure of the water going to induce labor in a 36 week pregnancy? The other was would the mother holding her breath have a negative affect on the baby? So I set up a few meetings with a couple of OB physicians in town to see what they had to say.  They pretty much told me the baby would extract oxygen form the mother no matter what. It might affect the mothers ability to holding her breath but the baby would be fine. If it did induce labor, unlikely, the baby was going to be coming out very soon anyway.  So with that information in hand, I ventured into the realm of underwater maternity photos. A little tricky but defiantly worth the energy and time. Interesting question here, would a pregnant woman underwater be considered a submarine?

Amphitrite

A little test gig with the new UW triggering system for the surface lights. Must say I like being able to control the Einsteins from the water. The beautiful Sarah Blakley is modeling a design by MayNette.

The House that Bruno Built

If you find yourself driving along Canyon View Dr in Ransom Canyon Texas  you eventually come across a salient steel structure.  To those of us whom live in the area it is know as the Steel House. Some residents of the area consider it to be an eye sore but I consider it to be Pure Genius! From the outside it looks more like a spaceship out of a Mars movie but once inside it becomes a geometrical amazement.  This organic architecture is a culmination of 35 years of Robert Bruno’s life. The home is based on a steel sculpture that inspired him to make it into a livable metal art form.  Sadly the home was never completed secondary to the death of it’s creator in 2008.

In the September issue of Vogue USA is a spread by Steven Klein of a futuristic fashion photo session where Google meets Bruno.  The gig focuses more on the outer structure than the confluent metal within.   When I previewed the structure last week for my  fashion photo session, I realized this house was far more than metal welded together. It is a work of art carefully designed for the human eye to follow the lines from ceiling to floor, wall to door, weld to window.  I also realized this house must be seen through a 170deg view.  It was built for the human eye not a 200mm lens. So as I photographed  Cintrena Johnston, Rebecca Young, and  Kate Schmidt (DMG) with my trusty sigma 15mm In this metal, I captured what Bruno wanted us to see.Now If I can just convince Lady Gaga to come do a Jetson’s Themed gig here.

Liquid Art ” The Pink lady”

Kaylea Face compositsquarewmsmOne of the Interesting things about liquid art is the results are unpredictable.  Several of my clients have shown me work I have done in the past or other photographers images asking If I can re do them.  Even though I would love to reproduce  some of them, I simple have not been able to accomplish that task.  Of the hundreds of images I have done, no two ever look alike or have been reproduced.     It’s a one of a kind image.   Word to the wise put a “not responsible” for died skin or hair in the contract.  Everyone will end up pink, green, orange, yellow, gold etc……  No Cows were hurt during the spattering of Kaylea.
